Paint Project.

We Sir Works A Lot did it....

Our basement is finished enough that we are at the painting stage! Colors have been picked. Carpet chosen, walls primed and today I got started on our first coat.

I can't wait to have a basement to hang out in.

You guys wanna come sip cocktails with me?

well, duh.

Since my hubby has been working so hard on our basement this summer and has started traveling weekly for work, I took it upon myself to learn how to operate our John Deere riding lawn mower a couple of months ago.

Turns out, mowing the lawn is FABULOUS!

Seriously. No REALLY. I mean it.

Yes. I really mean it.

Ok, lets get the laughter out of our systems now.

There, are we done?

No?

Ok, now?

Good.

Anyway...I've been mowing the lawn almost weekly for the last 2 months now and just today I figured out why I like it so much.

It's because it's the one thing around here that I can tidy up and it can't be immediately messed up again. It takes that grass a good 3-4 days to get messy again. Unlike the inside of the house which has 2 monkeys children to mess it up in 3.2 miliseconds.

Oh, and it's also great because I can hear myself think even over the roar of the engine. Unlike the roar of Dora the Explorer or anything else on Noggin.

So Blessed.

Have I told you how lucky I am??

Well, I am.

Not only do I get to spent pretty much 24/7 with my kids, but now that I'm home it's opened all kinds of doors for me to say yes to things that I otherwise would have likely turned down the opportunity to be involved in.

Church involvement in particular. I never would have been able to help out at Vacation Bible School this summer, or even have my kids attend for that matter.

I feel so lucky.

More to Love

are you watching this show??

I'm catching up right now on my TiVo. I forgot all about it until I was flipping through my TiVo the other day and came across 3 episodes I hadn't watched yet.

As I'm watching, I'm drawn in by some of the women and Luke (the "bachelor"). But it makes me a little scared for him too.

I mean, some of these women (in their 20's) haven't had relationships before, one has never had a 2nd date and only 3 first dates, and some with no dates ever. Ever. And now they are competing for the love of this one guy.

Doesn't this seem like the perfect set up for creating stalkers?? I can totally see some of these girls who are for the first time ever getting affection from a guy turning in to total stalkers once they are sent home. Heck, some of them are seeming a bit stalker-ish already.

Fatal Attraction anyone??

Watch out Luke.

Question.

Does drinking a glass of wine while waiting for the results of a pregnancy test make me a bad mother?

ZOO trip

MN ZOO
My kiddos and I went to our local Zoo recently.
I took that photo.
Neat-o huh?

I understand...

I used to wonder how people let themselves get fat. I mean, couldn't you tell that the weight was piling on - and didn't you want to do something about it.

Now, I'm the person I used to wonder about. I'm the one in the middle of a weight gain...and while I know I should stop eating McDonald's, I know that I should spend more time in the gym, I know that I need to do something and yet I find myself on the couch day after day.

But I have a plan.

It's starting after I attend the state fair and eat my little (big)heart out.

and PS. Thanks to NYC HIT for helping me finally figure out the art of the strikethrough.

Never Say Never

You know how when you are young (and dumb) and you say things like, I'll never let my kids act like that...how hard is it to keep your kids hair brushed...my kids won't leave the house with a dirty face, sticky hands, mismatched clothes...even when I have kids I'll still make time to do my hair and make up when I go out.

Well, let me tell you something....

They will. Sometimes it's very hard. Yes, they will time and time again. And No, you won't.

V.I.C.T.O.R.Y

Yes, that's right. I won. Ha! He got back from his trip last night. I was asleep when he got home and still asleep when he went to the office this morning. BUT when I looked in the bathroom, the clothes had been moved to the laundry basket.

I just took them out of the dryer. I don't mind doing the laundry, I do think that actually doing the laundry is part of my job description as a SAHM. But picking up clothes from the bathroom floor is not.

We'll see what discussion, if any, comes from this tonight.

IT'S ON

Did you ever see that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, where he returns from his business trip and leaves his suitcase on the stairs?? Ray doesn't think he should have to take care of it - she's the one who takes care of the house. Debra doesn't think it should be her responsibility because - hey - it's HIS suitcase, he's capable of taking it upstairs and emptying it.

Well, I'm in a similar battle. Except my battle is with dirty clothes on the bathroom floor.

Sir Works a Lot has been working on our basement, he's got come incredibly dirty clothes when he's drywalling. 2 weeks ago, I decided to conduct a little experiment...to see how long he'd let the clothes pile up. As of now - more than 2 weeks after the experiment began, there are 4 days of basement work clothes still on that floor. (Maybe that's why he hasn't worked on the basement in over a week).

I really don't think that it's in my job description as a SAHM to pick up his clothes off the bathroom floor after he showers. (Is it?!) I knew the war had been waged and it had turned into a battle of wills. So I broached the topic yesterday....

Me: Could you just concede already and pick up your clothes on the bathroom floor? Because if not, they will still be there waiting for you when you get back from your trip on Tuesday.

Him: I have a full-time job.

(WTF?!)

I really don't remember what I said after that...but I do remember what I was thinking... it was along the lines of FU%K THAT!

Ok, so I know I'm the SAHM here, and YES I pick up after my kids, clean the house, cook the meals - and admittedly I'm a shitty housekeeper. I can be lazy and often lack motivation to do little more than wake up in the morning and sometimes even that is a stretch goal for the day.

BUT it SHOULD NOT be my responsibility to pick up his nasty ass 2 week old clothes from the bathroom floor.

It shouldn't even get to a 2 week point...you take a shower...you put your clothes in the laundry basket (or in our case the laundry pile). Is it that freaking hard?!

Please someone tell me if I'm in the wrong here...if you are convincing enough - I might go pick up the clothes, right now.

Gym Day.

Back on the wagon at the gym again. Now that Sass' nose has stopped running.

Today I spent nearly 2 hours working out. I did almost 4 miles on the treadmill and it was leg day. I also got to read a few chapters in my books and watch some grown up TV all at the same time. It was great!

I also have a $50 gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket for the spa at my gym...can't wait to get a massage there!
